Copper Harbor, Michigan

The Next Generation Helps Hunter’s Point Fund Drive

Morgan Filsinger, 6, and Matthew Filsinger, 4, were vacationing in Copper Harbor with their parents from downstate Michigan. From their cabin on the shore of Copper Harbor they noticed many people walking on a strip of land across from them called Hunter’s Point. Their parents explained how Hunter’s Point is important to many people. They talked about how Grant Township is attempting to purchase the property to preserve it’s natural beauty and assure public access.

The children wanted to help also. With the help of their parents, they set up a stand to sell lemonade to the many people who come to enjoy the fireworks at Copper Harbor on the 4th of July. Although the 4th was cold and rainy, they stuck with it and presented Grant Township with $200 towards the purchase of Hunter’s Point. Richard Powers praised the children for their efforts and rewarded them with gift certificates to the Berry Patch, a Copper Harbor ice cream store.
