Baraga residents Diana and Duane Lyon’s August Garage Sale benefited Grant Township’s Hunter’s Point Project fundraising efforts. The donation of over $340 was made in memory of Diana’s parents, Fred and Ellen Sibilisky, who managed Twin Lakes County Park (now Twin Lakes State Park) in the 1940’s. Avid hikers and snowshoers Diana said, we have always believed in parks and open spaces and wanted keep Hunter’s Point accessible to the public.
Hunter’s Point, in Copper Harbor, is a long time favorite hiking for area residents and tourists is now threatened by development. Grant Township has applied for a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant to purchase Hunter’s Point. The purpose of the fund drive is to collect the local match necessary to complete the purchase.
Grant Township Supervisor Richard Powers thanked the Lyons for their efforts. He stated their support is typical of the over 800 donations we have received from individuals, companies, and trusts. We have now raised nearly 90% of our goal of $195,000. Information about the Hunter’s Point Project can be found on the Hunter’s Point Web Site, www.hunters-point.org.
